From the town of Thurmont:

Bicycle Registration Program

The Thurmont Police Department is introducing its
Bicycle Registration Program. We are currently working on
creating a master database of bicycles in our Town in an effort
to curb the number of lost, stolen, and unclaimed bicycles
reported to our Police Department.

You can obtain a physical copy of the bicycle registration form from our office. Otherwise, feel free to submit your registration online by clicking the Online Bike Registration icon. After submission, you will receive a confirmation letter with a registration sticker to be placed on your bicycle. Golden Mile Small Area Plan Survey

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

Dear Frederick Region Residents:

The City of Frederick needs to hear your voice. The City is beginning to work with the community to create a plan for the Golden Mile commercial corridor (West Patrick Street). This plan will serve as a guide for land use, development, transportation and corridor beautification decisions during the next several years.

Please participate in the planning process by completing the brief survey below. The results of the survey will help to shape the Plan.

Beginning in June 2010, the City will conduct a community-based planning process, including several community workshops. Your participation and input will help to ensure that the plan represents the views of businesses, property owners, nearby residents, and other stakeholders.

The first community workshop will take place in June. Please check the Golden Mile Small Area Plan web page for the date and location.

Please take the time to carefully read each question and answer it as accurately as possible. The survey should take less than 10 minutes to complete.
An interactive map is also available, where you can post comments about specific issues or locations.

Thank you for your ideas about improving the Golden Mile!

Ride of Silence

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

Join the Frederick Pedalers as they raise cycling awareness during Bike Safety Month and honor those cyclists who have been injured or killed on our nation’s roads. This ride will proceed in silent memorial at no more than 12 mph through the streets of downtown Frederick obeying all laws and traffic controls to demonstrate cyclists’ intent to safely share the road with other vehicles. Please arrive and be ready for pre-ride instructions at 6:45 PM on May 19th as the ride will try to depart promptly from Thomas Johnson Middle School at 7:00 PM.

Saturday MTB Ride

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

Fixed Gear Watershed ride Maybe you’ve wanted to ride the Frederick Watershed but the lack of blazed and signed trails and the thought of getting lost has kept you away. Or maybe you aren’t sure if you are up to the technical challenge. If so, this it the ride for you. This loop will be 12 – 15 miles with lots of options to bail and take dirt roads back to the car. This is an introduction ride, but not a beginners ride. You’ll need decent fitness and you should have a few technical skills: getting over logs and being able to ride rock gardens. We’ll probably stop a few times to play on the rocks if the group wants but otherwise will keep moving at a moderate pace. Questions about whether this ride is for you? Just ask! This ride will be led by FBC board member Joe Whitehair.

There will be a women’s only option as well, led by FBC member Julie Whitehair.

Hemlets mandatory. Bring enough water, tools and food to be self sufficient.

Rides will take place Saturday April 24th at 10am. Full details about both rides can be found here.
